First Grade

I can read stories that contain high frequency words, and respond to the story in writing.

    This means that I can read common sight words and use them in sentences.

I can hear 2 to 4 sounds, blended together and recognize the word.

    This means that I can tell what a word is, after the teacher has sounded out its parts.

I can read my second quarter list of fry words.

    This means that I can read all 25 words.

I can read with fluency.

    This means I can read a story, poem or play smoothly and with expression.

I can write a sentence in response to a story.

    This means that I can write a sentence that responds to the story, using

    capitalization and punctuation.

 

Second Grade

I can remember impoortant ideas from what I have read.

    This means I can write the main idea and important details from a nonfiction book.

    This means I can compare two stories and find their similarities and differences.

I can sound out words that have consonant clusters and vowel pairs.

    This means that I can sound out unknown words with one or more syllables.

    This means I can read all 25 words.

I can read with fluency.

    This means I can read a story, poem or play smoothly and with expression.

I can write complete sentences for many purposes.

    This means I can write a letter with a clear purpose, correct organization, and C.O.P.S.
