Kindergarten “I Can” Statements

READING

☺ I CAN recognize all of the upper and lower case letters in the alphabet.  This means I CAN name each letter when my teacher shows it to me.

☺ I CAN orally make the sounds for all the letters in the alphabet.  This means I CAN produce the letter sounds when my teacher asks me to.

☺ I CAN write the letter of the sound I hear at the beginning, middle, and  end of a word.  This means I CAN write a letter after I hear its sound.

☺ I CAN print all my letters correctly.  This means I CAN print all my letters the proper way without looking at a model.

☺ I CAN read all my color words.  This means I CAN read all the color words when they are shown to me.

☺ I CAN read all my sight words.  This means I CAN read each word when it is shown to me. (I, my, like, for, here, is, and, see, a, have, go, to, play, said, she, are, he, the)

☺ I CAN read word family words.  This means I CAN read words from the family when they are shown to me.

  ( -at, -an, -it, -ig, -ot, -en, -et, -og, -ut, -ox)

MATH

☺ I CAN write the numbers 0-20.  This means I CAN write each number the correct way without looking at a model.

☺ I CAN count to 115.  This means I CAN count without skipping any numbers.

☺ I CAN identify the following coins.  This means I CAN name each coin when it is shown to me (penny, nickel, dime, quarter)

☺ I CAN tell the value of the following coins.  This means I CAN say how much each coin is worth when I am asked      (penny, nickel, dime, quarter)

☺ I CAN solve simple addition problems.  This means I CAN come up with an answer to a problem that is given to me.

☺ I CAN solve simple subtraction problems.  This means I CAN come up with an answer to a problem that is given to me.

☺ I CAN use basic measurement skills.  This means I CAN use a measurement tool to figure out how long something is.

☺ I CAN name three dimensional shapes.  This means I CAN name the shape when my teacher shows it to me (cone, sphere, pyramid, cube, cylinder)

☺ I CAN tell time to the nearest hour.  This means I CAN tell the time when I look at a clock.

☺ I CAN write my first and last name correctly from memory.  This means I CAN spell and write my name correctly without looking at a model.
