Gym Class “I Can” Statements

Quarter 3

 

 

ALL GRADE LEVELS:

Kindergarten

I can:

            1. transfer weight from one body part to another in a variety of ways.

            2. take weight momentarily onto hands using a large extenision.

            3. follow a pathway that my partner makes.

            4. follow different pathways while moving forward and sideways on the ground

    or on low equipment.

 

1st Grade

I can:

            1. make different body shapes with or without a partner.

            2. strike a small, lightweight ball upward with a hand or lightweight paddle.

            3. bounce then strike a small, lightweight ball using a hand or other paddle.

            4. strike a wiffle-ball off a tee with a bat.

            5. use steeper swing to strike a wiffle ball with a hockey stick or golf club.

            6. dribble in self-space using one hand.

            7. dribble a ball in self-space while switching from one had to the other.

            8. volley a lightweight ball or balloon with at least three different body parts.

 

2nd Grade

I can:

            1. jump a self-turned rope both forward and backward at least 10 times each.

            2. jump a self-turned rope at least three different ways (jogger, backward, criss-

    cross.

3. make different body shapes in the air when jumping off the ground or low level

    equipment.

4. continuously strike a small, lightweight ball upward using a hand or lightweight 

    paddle.

5. travel slowly in different directions and dribble a wiffle-type ball with a hockey

    stick.

6. dribble a ball in self-space at different levels.

7. dribble while slowing traveling in different directions.

8. dribble while slowing traveling on different pathways.

 

3rd Grade

I can:

            1. jump a self-turned rope using buoyant landings.

            2. jump into and out of a turning rope.

            3. jump a self-turned rope consecutively 25 times.

            4. throw a variety of objects to target areas using a smooth underhand motion.

            5. throw as far as possible using a smooth underhand motion.

            6. throw over hand using varied amounts of force and speed.

            7. catch a ball, tossed by self or others at different levels.

            8. dribble a ball in self space using one, then the other hand.

            9. dribbles while moving to the right or the left.

            10. dribble and change direction at a signal.

            11. vary speed while dribbling.

 

4th Grade

I can:

            1. jump for distance.

            2. jump for height.

            3. jump a self-turned rope using at least five different types of jumps.

            4. strike a small object with a forehand motion using both strong and light force.

            5. bounce and then strike a small object using a backhand motion with a paddle.

            6. underhand strike a lightweight ball back and forth across a net to a partner.

            7. overhead volley a self-tossed ball to a wall or partner.

            8. forearm pass a ball to a partner.

            9. dribble continuously while traveling at a signal.

            10. dribble a ball while keeping away from stationary opponents.

            11. travel, dribble and chest/bounce pass to a partner.

 

5th Grade

I can:

            1. jump a self-turned rope using as many different types of jumps as possible.

            2. design and refine a jumping routine with a partner.

            3. dribble and change speeds at a signal.

            4. dribble with a group in a boundaried area, without losing control of the ball and

    while avoiding contact with others or opponents.

5. use the inside of the foot to dribble and kick a leading pass to a moving partner.

6. demonstrate understanding of rules of soccer.

7. underhand strike a ball over a net to a partner.

8. use an overhand strike to volley a ball over a net.

9. bump, set and serve.

10. demonstrate an understanding of the rules in volleyball.

11. explain the rules of a basketball game.

12. dribble and then throw a leading pass to a moving partner using a chest or

      bounce pass.
