Fourth Grade “I Can” Statements

Quarter 4

 

WRITING

I can write an informal Journal entry.
This means I can write a diary entry.  I can also keep a travel/learning log.

I can write a message.

I can write a narrative.

I can write a poem.

I can review all writing applications presented this year for our
testing in May.

 

SOCIAL STUDIES
I can explain the cause and effects of frontier wars.

I can explain how Ohio obtained statehood.

I can explain how railroads and canals changed settlement in Ohio.

I can use the problem-solving decision making process.
READING 
I can find cause and effect in a fiction and non-fiction selections and explain their relationship
on a graphic organizer.
 
I can describe the author's point of view and support it with evidence from the text.

I can make judgments from the selection.
 
I can distinguish between fact and opinion in fiction and non-fiction.
 
I can connote the meaning of a word from the author's mood. 
 
I can use a dictionary for the denotation of a word.
 
I can review first quarter I can statements. 
 
MATH
I can identify and describe transformations (slides) and can use them
to solve problems.

I can apply measurement strategies using volume, capacity, and mass
with metric and customary units.

I can make simple conversions with measurement.

I can compare the number of units to the size of the units used to
measure an object. This means I can compare a smaller unit of measure to a larger
unit to measure the same object.

I can describe, classify, compare, and model solid geometric objects.

I can select appropriate units of measurement.

I can use models, words, and tables of values to construct and
interpret patterns.

I can apply problem-solving strategies and use math vocabulary in my
explanation.
SCIENCE

I can select appropriate tools and use safety procedures.

This means I can choose the right tool for the job and I know basic safety rules.

 

I can develop a simple experiment to answer a question.

This means I can design a complete experiment using 5 steps of an experiment to answer a question.

 

I can explain how technology has improved human lives.

This means I can describe an invention and tell how it has helped people.

 

I can understand the relationship between personal behavior and wellness.

This means I can explain how my behavior affects my well-being.

 

I can summarize properties of electrical energy.

This means I can identify elements of electrical energy.

 

I can summarize properties of light and sound energy.

This means I can identify elements of sound and light energy.

 

I can compare the life cycles of different plants including germination, maturity, reproduction and death.

This means I can identify different phases of a plant’s life.

 

I can relate plant structures to their specific function.

This means I can explain the purpose of various plant parts.

 

I can classify common plants according to their characteristics.

This means I can tell what a plant is by examining its parts.

 

I can describe how organisms interact with one another in various ways.

This means I understand how living things depend on each other for survival.
