READING
I can use a dictionary or glossary. This means I can find the spelling or
definition of a word I do not know.
I can read and order directions. This means I can read and tell which
direction should be done first, next, and last.
I can research a topic and report to the class. This means I can use a number
of sources to learn about a topic. I can present this information to the
class clearly and loudly so that they learn from my speech.
I can read homographs. This means I can read and use words that are spelled
the same but have different meanings.
I can use prefixes and suffixes. This means I can read and use un, re, er est,
ful, and less to spell words and use them correctly in a sentence.
I can tell the theme of a story. This means I can read a story or poem and
tell what the author wants me to learn or think about.
WRITING
I can use correct handwriting, spelling, punctuation, and capital letters in
my writing. This means I will edit my work.
I can write an interesting story. This means I can write a story with a
logical beginning, middle, and ending.
MATH
I can count money. This means I will make change for $1.00, count coins to
dollar and cents amounts, and show equal sets of coins (2N = 1D).
I can model multiplication. This means I can draw an array to solve a word
problem.
I can look at data (information expressed in numbers) and describe changes
from one time to the next. This means I can use words and numbers to explain
changes in data (growth chart, seasonal temperatures).
I can arrange a set of objects in many ways. This means I can find all the
ways possible to make groups from one set.
I can tell time for hours and minutes. This means I can tell time by 5 minute
counts.
I can read and understand information on graphs. This means I can write true
statements about one or more graphs and compare their data.
SCIENCE
I can read a map. This means I can find streets and places, identify
mountains, rivers, and other land forms, and locate the continents and oceans
of the world.
I can create a map. This means I can draw a map including a title, pictures
or symbols, and a map key.
I can identify the continents and oceans of the world. This means that given
a map with no labels, I can correctly label the continents and oceans.
I can use different resources to learn about a topic and draw conclusions.
This means I can learn about a subject like recycling and share my thoughts
and opinions.
SOCIAL STUDIES
I can think like a scientist. This means I can ask a question, made a
prediction (hypothesis), do an experiment, draw a conclusion, and share my
findings.
I can explore with flashlights and shadows to show that light travels in a
straight line until it hits a solid object. This means I can demonstrate how
light creates shadows and understand how shadows caused by the sun change
throughout the day.
