Reading

I can identify the first 50 sight words.

    This means I can read the first 50 first grade sight words.

I can make and support my predictions.

    This means I can make guesses about the story from the title and pictures.

I can summarize the story.

    This means I can retell the main events in a story.

I can compare and contrast the characters and stories.

    This means I can tell how stories and characters are the same and different.

I can identify the verb endings (s, ed, and ing).

    This means I can use these endings correctly.

I can categorize and classify objects by characteristics.

    This means I can sort objects by categories.

I can blend sounds to make a word.

    This means I can sound out letters to make a word. ( ex. C A T).

 

Writing

I can print legibly.

    This means I can print neatly using proper spacing and letter formation.

I can spell grade appropriate words.

    This means I can spell words from a word list.

I can use correct punctuation and capitalization.

    This means I can use a period, question mark or exclamation point and capitalize

    proper nouns, I, and the first word of each sentence.

I can speak with correct grammar and stay on topic.

    This means I can talk appropriately.

 

Math

I can order and compare numbers.

    This means I can tell which number is bigger or smaller.

    This means I can count and write the value of pennies, nickels and dimes.

    This means I can use a ruler to find the length and width of an object in feet and inches.

 

Science

    This means I can just say "no" to drugs.

I can classify safe and unsafe substances (e.g., poisons, legal and illegal drugs).

    This means I can sort pictures into 2 categories.

    This means I can take medicine correctly.

I can tell about the harmful effects of using tobacco products.

    This means I can tell tobacco products are bad for me.
