IMPORTANT
~ PLEASE READ!!!
I would like to welcome back all of our students and
their families, along with everyone who is new to Hickory Ridge this
year. It is wonderful to see all the children’s smiling faces back
at school! At this time, I would like to reinforce some GUIDELINES
AND RULES that have been in place at our building to alleviate
any questions, and address some other issues that need to be
clarified: The
only “over-the-counter” medication that can be kept at school for
students without a completed physician’s authorization form is
cough drops. If you send cough drops to school with your child, they
MUST be accompanied by a note signed by the parent/legal guardian.
These will be kept at the teacher’s desk and dispensed to your child
on an as-needed basis.
ANY OTHER MEDICINE SENT INTO SCHOOL MUST HAVE THE PROPER PAPERWORK
COMPLETED AND BE ON FILE WITH THE OFFICE. The necessary
documentation is a district form. Please note that one side must be
filled out and signed by your child’s physician, and the other side
is to be filled out and signed by a parent/legal guardian. Please
do not send any medication to school with your child that does not
have the appropriate prior authorization. Medicine brought to
school without the appropriate paperwork will be locked in the
office. You will receive a call to pick up the medication at your
earliest convenience as we can NOT send it home with your child. If
your child DOES require any medicine during the day that is not on
file with the office, you are more than welcome to bring it up for
your child and personally dispense it at any time. If
your child is going to be absent from school, you MUST call and
report his/her absence on the Hickory Ridge attendance line. That
number is: (330) 273-8104. It is a recorded line, so you may
call 24 hours a day. If your child is going to be LATE to school,
you may also call that number to notify the school that he/she will
be tardy. If we do not receive a call regarding your child’s
absence, we are required to call you to verify why your child is not
in school. If your child is going to be absent from school for an
extended period of time, please request a “VACATION REQUEST”
form from the
office.
TARDY
STUDENTS If your child arrives
to school after the Tardy Bell at 8:40 you are required to bring your
child into the office and sign them in. Students that arrive to
school late must report to the office for a HALL PASS permitting
them to return their classroom. Arriving to school on time daily
sets the tone for a productive educational experience! The
applications for Free/Reduced Lunches are included in your child’s
opening day packet. If your child was previously approved for either
the free or reduced lunch program during this past school year, you
will need to re-apply by September 30, 2008. If your updated
application is not received by this time, your child will
automatically be removed from the program. For
those families who are submitting their application for the first
time, they will be processed as quickly as possible upon their
receipt in the office. You will receive a letter in the mail from
our Food Services department notifying you of your status for this
program. As in the past, the cost of a reduced lunch is $.40, and
reduced breakfast prices remain at $.30. As
you may already be aware, the price of school lunches district-wide
has increased. The cost of lunch at the elementary school is now
$2.50. We encourage you to purchase lunch tickets in any amount in
advance from our cafeteria. It helps to facilitate a much faster
lunch line and is easier for the students. As
the district buses run at or near capacity, all students receive
assigned seats on buses. Unless there is an emergency and prior
approval is received from the Brunswick Transportation Dept., a
student can ONLY ride the bus to which he/she is assigned. Students
are not permitted to ride on other students’ buses for play
dates, etc. (Transportation Dept. phone number: (330) 273-0252)
**CHANGES IN
STUDENT TRANSPORTATION**
New rules in place for this school year – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
Phone calls will NOT be considered an acceptable form of notification
for a change in student transportation. If you need to change your
child’s mode of transportation on a particular day, that change MUST
be in the form of a note signed by a parent/legal guardian. If an
EMERGENCY arises and you did not have an opportunity to
send in a signed note making a transportation change, we will also
accept a faxed note signed by a parent/legal guardian. The Hickory
Ridge fax number is: (330) 273-0510. We appreciate your
cooperation and understanding in this matter. Your child’s safety is
always our priority. I
look forward to another great year at Hickory
Ridge!
Mrs. Mary Anne Melvin
