With lots of sunshine, highs in the 70's and 80's and a good deal of holiday cheer, the Marching Blue Devils enjoyed a great trip to Orlando, Florida over the holiday break. The band gave an outstanding performance in the Orlando Citrus Parade (televised on Saturday, January 3 on WEWS Channel 5 - Cleveland). The Marching Blue Devils had a rewarding experience working with Disney conductor, Adam, and recording the soundtrack to an animated short about Tarzan. Finally, the band was treated to a feature performance in the Magic Kingdom with the Lake Park High School Marching Band (Roselle, Illinois) and the Metamora High School Marching Band (Metamora, Illinois). The bands were the first in history to have their own special parade when a broken water main cancelled Mickey's New Year's Eve parade in which the bands were supposed to march. Disney instead created a special feature parade and honored each of the bands with a feature performance on Main Street USA in front of Cinderella's Castle.
After visiting Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, Animal Kindom, Downtown Disney, DisneyQuest and the Magic Kingdom, the Marching Blue Devils returned home at 8:30AM on Friday, January 2. It was a great time for all the students, chaperones and staff and one of the finest moments in recent marching band history.
