CODE OF CONDUCT
  • For more information please refer to the code of conduct pamphlet you received from your coach or advisor.

  • This is intended to be an overview of the code of conduct for athletics, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

CODE OF CONDUCT
  • This policy will be subject to enforcement and/or disciplinary action by school administration for the entire year
  • This is a 365 day a year policy
  • Offenses are cumulative throughout the student’s enrollment at either MS or HS
  • Punishment will carry year to year and sport to sport

DRUGS, ALCOHOL & TOBACCO
  • Activity participants shall not possess, use, sell, give or otherwise transmit, or be under the influence of any drug of abuse the possession of which is prohibited by law.


  • The possession or use of any tobacco product is also prohibited.

DRUGS-ALCOHOL
  • Sale or Distribution of Drugs and/or Alcohol


    • First Violation
      • Prohibited from participation for one calendar year,
      •    then must petition to be reinstated.


    • Second Violation
      • Indefinitely prohibited from participation in athletics and co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

DRUGS-ALCOHOL
  • Possession and/or Use of Drugs or Alcohol
    • First Violation
      • Prohibited from 100% of scheduled events or
      • Prohibited from 50% of scheduled events if student and parents agree to and successfully complete drug/alcohol assessment
    • Second Violation
      • Suspended from all activities/athletics for one calendar year
    • Third Violation
      • Prohibited from participation in all activities/athletics at Brunswick High School

Hosting Parties
  • Hosting parties where drugs and/or alcohol is present will be viewed the same as the distribution of drugs and/or alcohol.
  • First Violation
  • Student will miss one game/event while still attending practice
  • Second Violation
  • Student will miss two weeks of games/events and practices
  • Third Violation
  • Student will be prohibited from participation for one calendar year.

TOBACCO & TOBACCO PRODUCTS
  • Use of tobacco in any form, at any time is a violation
    • First Violation
      • Prohibited from 100% of scheduled events or
      • Prohibited from 50% of scheduled events if student and parents agree to and successfully complete tobacco assessment
    • Second Violation
      • Suspended from all activities/athletics for one calendar year
    • Third Violation
      • Prohibited from participation in all activities/athletics at Brunswick High School

  • Disruption of Activities
  • Damage of Property
  • Assault and Battery
  • Dangerous Weapons and Instruments

VIOLATIONS
(IN SEASON ONLY)
  • Students serving suspension or expulsion from school for Disruption of Activity, Obscenity and Disobedience may not participate in athletic activities during the term of the removal from school.  In addition extracurricular privileges will be revoked as follows:
    • First Violation
      • Result in school related penalty
    • Second Violation
      • One event suspension beyond school penalty
    • Third Violation
      • Student will participate in hearing with the athletic director and coach.

VIOLATIONS
(IN SEASON ONLY)
  • Students serving suspension or expulsion from school for Damage of Property, Assault and Battery, Possession of Dangerous Weapons or Instruments or Theft may not participate in athletic activities during the term of the removal from school.  In addition extracurricular privileges will be revoked as follows:
    • First Violation
      • Student will be prohibited from participation in 100% of the scheduled activities in the current and/or next extracurricular program in which he or she participates
    • Second Violation
      • Student will be prohibited from participation in extracurricular activities at Brunswick High School.

SELF-REFERRAL
  • Voluntary referrals DO NOT carry any punitive consequences
  • Students are permitted one voluntary referral during middle school and one during high school participation
  • Self-referrals can be made by the student or by his/her immediate family. (Confidential)
  • Self-referral cannot be used by students as a method to avoid consequences after they have been found to be in violation of Code of Conduct rules

SELF-REFERRAL, Cont.
  • Students must make self-referrals to a coach, the athletic director, teacher, administrator, guidance counselor or to the district Chemical Dependency Coordinator
  • Self-referrals can lead to referral to an approved assessing agency
  • Those referrals made to an assessing agency will remain confidential

EMERGENCY REMOVAL
  • An administrator, coach or activity supervisor may, without notice or hearing, remove a student from an athletic activity or from the school premises if, in his or her judgment, the student’s presence poses a danger to persons or property, disrupts, or threatens to disrupt the activity

DENIAL OF PARTICIPATION
  • Before a student is removed from an activity for disciplinary reasons for more than 24 hours, the student will be given the opportunity for an informal hearing with an administrator at which time he or she will receive written notice of the intention to remove and the reasons for the intended removal

APPEALS
  • A student or his/her parent, guardian or custodian has/have the right to appeal such denial of participation of privileges to the Board of Education’s designee


  • The decision of the Board of Education’s designee may be appealed to the Court of Common Pleas

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • All participants in Brunswick City Schools athletic activities must have on file for each school year:


      • Signed Code of Conduct Agreement Form
      • Physical as required by the activity
      • Eligibility Card
      • OHSAA Pamphlet
      • Other forms deemed necessary by the athletic dept.

PARENTAL PROCEDURE FOR REGISTERING CONCERNS REGARDING AN ATHLETIC PROGRAM
  • We encourage open and honest communication at all levels.  Many concerns can be resolved between parents and coaches or advisors.  Coaches and advisors should have the opportunity to resolve problems on their teams or activities.  As a parent, if you have a concern about the activity in which your child is participating, please contact the head coach or advisor directly.  The athletic director (330-273-0496) and the principal (330-273-0495) are available at any time to assist you.

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
  • All participants in athletic activities at Brunswick High School must meet the following academic eligibility requirements


  • The program is twofold, with a credit check and minimum grade point requirement each 9 weeks.  A probationary program is available to those not meeting the minimum grade point requirements

STUDENTS GRADE 9-12
  • Must have received passing grades in a minimum of five one-credit courses, or the equivalent, in the grading period immediately preceding, to be eligible.  This does not include Physical Education.


  • Grades  10-12 must have a 2.0 minimum grade point average for the grading period immediately preceding.  Grade 9 is 1.8 GPA

STUDENTS GRADE 7-8
  • Must have received passing grades in 75% of classes attempted in the grading period immediately preceding, to be eligible


  • Must have a 1.8 minimum grade point average for the grading period immediately preceding

PROBATIONARY PROGRAM
  • If a student does not receive the minimum required grade point average, the student and parents or guardian will be notified.  They will be given the opportunity to participate in a four-week probationary program involving the Athletic Director and the student’s teachers in order to qualify for eligibility

PROBATIONARY PROGRAM
  • If the student does not raise his or her grade point average to the required level during the probationary period, he or she will become ineligible for participation in all athletic and/or extra-curricular activities for the remainder of the grading period
  • If the student and/or parents or guardian do not participate in the probationary program, the student will be declared ineligible for the entire grading period

ABSENCES
  • IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE, AN ATHLETE MUST BE IN SCHOOL FOR AT LEAST ONE HALF DAY ON THE DAY OF THE PRACTICE OR CONTEST
  • YOU MUST SIGN IN BEFORE 6TH PERIOD
  • YOU MUST SIGN OUT AFTER 5TH PERIOD

TICKET INFORMATION
  • ADULT $5.00
  • STUDENT $3.00 except Football is $5.00
  • Pre-Sale Tickets for Football only:
    • Adult $5.00 for all home games
    • Student $3.00 for all games
  • Passes Available in Athletic Office:
    • Adult- $40 for 10 games- 2 free games
    • Student- $30 for all high school athletic events.
  • Senior Citizen passes available in Board Office.
