Safety Concern from the Transportation Dept.

Daily, the school bus drivers see parents who attempt to catch up to a bus in their automobile, and then have their child run to catch their school bus from behind. This creates an extreme risk for the student- it places them in a situation where the bus driver has no chance of seeing either the automobile or the student as they run along the side of the bus.

Students should NEVER run to catch a bus, especially from behind, or from a car that has pulled up behind a bus. It would be far safer for the parent to transport the student to their school building or to a bus stop at which the bus has not yet arrived

Highly Qualified Teachers

The Brunswick City School District is committed to providing all children with teachers and teacher aides who are well trained and certified for the areas that they teach.  High quality professional development is made available for all teachers to keep up to date and increase their professional knowledge.

Applewood Elementary School is pleased to inform you that all of the classroom teachers assigned to teach your child meet or exceed the qualifications needed to be rated as Highly Qualified Teachers.  Our teachers are all fully certified to teach in the areas they have been assigned and are eligible for the Highly Qualified designation due to having taken and passed required licensure exams and/or having taken advanced coursework or earned advanced degrees.

Specific additional information regarding the qualifications of your child’s teacher can be obtained by contacting Mr. Miklos J. Kis, Principal at 330-273-0481.

New Afternoon Pick-up Procedures

We have started a new dismissal for our car riders. This involves using name placards.  If you plan on picking up your child during inclement weather, we will need to assign to you a name placard to be displayed in your vehicle.  Please download this form and send it in with your child.

District Excellence

Our school district was once again rated "Excellent" due to the number of students who pass mandatory tests, graduate high school, and attend school every day.  Our district has also been designated "District Improvement" because not enough students in our federally identified subgroups were successful on the state tests.  To read a letter explaining these results, click here for page 1 and click here for page 2.

Excellent Again!

Applewood is proud to be an "EXCELLENT" place to learn!  Click here to see our Certificate of Excellence and click here to see the letter of Excellence from the State Board of Education!
